Offense Drill 12: B3 Breakout

Purpose

Basic breakout play.

Description

Coach dumps puck on net and goalie places it behind net.

X1 picks puck up and makes quick pass to X3 who gives quick pass back to X1.

Long pass to X2 opposite side, then to X4.

X3 continues wide along boards after pass to become option for X4.

X1 remains high as pivot person.

Key Teaching Points

Good tape to tape passes.

Width and depth -- support the puck carrier.

Variations

• Add forechecker (X1 and X3) must read the forecheck pressure.
• Add defense -- should progress to 4 on 4 with aggressive pressure.
