Roller Hockey

Roller hockey is far from a new sport! Traditional roller hockey (sometimes called ball-and-cane hockey) has been played on box skates (two wheels side-by-side) for years! There has been a World Championship for men's roller hockey since 1936, and for women's roller hockey since 1992.

With the advent of in-line skates, in-line roller hockey is quickly beginning to gain popularity. In-line roller hockey is quite similar to ice hockey, with the biggest difference being that 4 players and a goalie, instead of 5 players and a goalie, play on an in-line hockey floor at a time. In-line hockey has a professional league (RHI) and a world championship for men. Women's roller hockey is not quite as popular as men's roller hockey, but has recently shown a serge in interest.
