Transition Drill 1: Snowbird, Drill #1



Purpose

High tempo flow drill.

Description

X1 and X2 start by staying wide, X1 passes cross to X2.

Both X1 and X2 cross at far end and drop pass.

They return on opposite sides, back toward the end they started at.

X1 and X2 pass as often as possible before the shot.

** As soon as X1 and X2 do the criss-cross and start back, X3 and X4 start the same drill at the other end.

Continuous flow.

Key Teaching Points

High tempo, good passes, accelerate through the middle.

Snowbird, Drill #2


Purpose

High tempo flow drill.

Description

Same setup as Snowbird Drill #1, but this time split the defense up at the red line (1/2 each side).

Once the forwards have gone by the red line, the defense steps up and picks forwards up coming back for a 2 on 1.

Defense alternates sides.

Key Teaching Points

Defense takes pass away, goalie has shooter.

Defense cannot commit too early, make shooter run out of space while making decision to shoot or pass.
