Graduate Studies
Introduction

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto has produced a large portion of the computer science Ph.D.'s in Canada. Graduates of our department are now on the faculties of most Canadian universities, as well as on the faculties of many leading universities throughout the world. Five of those who took positions in the United Staes have received the U.S. Presidential Young Investigator Award. One of our graduates is now the vice-president (development and marketing) of Microsoft. Another has won the ACM Doctorial Dissertation Award for the best computer science Ph.D. thesis in the world.

The Department of Computer Science offers a graduate program leading to two degrees: Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The graduate program consists of courses and research under the supervision of a faculty member. The faculty members in computer science are interested in a wide range of subjects related to computing, including programming methodology, networks, operating systems, numerical analysis and computation, computational complexity, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, human-computer interaction, databases, et cetera.
