Brown University will host the 1999 ECAC Women's Ice Hockey Championship on March 20-21, 1999. The semifinals will take place on Saturday, March 20 and the championship game will be played on Sunday, March 21. A total of eight teams qualify for the ECAC Women's Division I playoffs. The one-game quarterfinals will be played on either March 12, 13 or 14 as determined by the host institution.
This season the 14-team ECAC Women's Division I league features four players from the 1998 United States Olympic gold medal winning team in Brown's Tara Mounsey, Providence's Sara DeCosta and Harvard's A.J. Mleczko and Angelo Ruggiero. The regular season began on the Halloween weekend when Niagara played host to Boston College.
Brown University started to take ticket orders on Friday, November 13, 1998. Tickets can be ordered from the Brown ticket office at 401-863-2773. Ticket applications will also be able to be obtained from the ECAC web page at Hockey.ECAC.com.
One day adult tickets are $6 and student and children tickets are $3. Two-day tickets are $10 and $5. Group rates are available for groups of 20 or more. All groups should contact the Brown ticket office.
The NCAA "YES Clinic" features a free youth clinic hosted by ECAC Women's Division I and Women's Division III head coaches. The last two seasons have seen over 450 female youth ice hockey players register for the event. Registration information will be made available in December. Brown played host to the first two ECAC Women's Division I championships in 1994 and 1995. Providence won the crown in both of the first two seasons. Brown captured the ECAC tournament title at Northeastern last season as the fourth-seeded Bears defeated top-seeded New Hampshire in the championship.
