Summary

TORONTO-The McGill Martlets, making their debut at the CIAU Women's Ice Hockey Championship, defeated the St. Francis Xavier X-Women 5-2 on Sunday afternoon to finish fifth at the national tournament.

For the Martlets, captain Dana Rittmaster scored a hat trick and Julie Hornsby added one goal and two assists. St. F.X. captain Sarah Racicot had two markers in a losing cause.

Later in the afternoon, the OUA champion Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks will play the host Toronto Varsity Blues for the bronze medal. The Hawks finished 14-6 in the regular season, second in the league to Toronto, which had a 16-2-2 record.

Sunday's matches will conclude with the gold medal match between the Concordia Stingers and the Alberta Pandas, which will be televised nationally on TSN at 8 p.m.

The Stingers, the defending national champions, made it to the final by defeating the Blues 3-2 on Thursday and St. F.X. 10-0 on Saturday. The Pandas' road to the final has been tougher, as they defeated McGill and Laurier by 3-2 scores.
