Summary

TORONTO-In contrast with the first five games of the preliminary round at the 1999 CIAU Women's Ice Hockey Championship, the sixth contest featured a lot of goals. Unfortunately for the St. Francis Xavier X-Women, they did not score any of them.

In an impressive offensive display, the Concordia Stingers shut out St. F.X. 10-0 to close out the preliminary round Saturday night at Varsity Arena. With the victory, the Stingers finished first in their pool to advance to the championship final. They will face the Alberta Pandas, who defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 earlier in the day to come out on top in the other pool.

The Stingers scored three goals in the first 1:45 of the game, chasing St. F.X. goalie Winnell Jackson out of the contest, and they finished with six markers in the opening period.

In total, the Stingers outshot the X-Women 48-10, and nine different players scored. Anne Rodrigue had a pair of markers, while Annie Boucher, Karen Kendall, Laura MacKenzie, Corinne Swirsky, Deana Huyghebaert, Leanne Martell, Kari Colpitts and Marie-Claude Allard had one goal each.

Concordia netminder Lisa Herritt stopped only 10 shots to record the shutout.
