The invitations/applications are ready and will be mailed out early next week. In the meantime, I have posted the invitations/ applications on the Polar Bear web site. The address for the site is: http://www.ctpolarbears.com If you download the application, would you please drop me a note so I can add you to our mailing list. We are keeping a mailing list (e-mail) this year to keep all interested parties informed as to new developments regarding the tournament (i.e. teams, schedules, special events, any other news...) We are expecting 85 teams this year and, based upon the number of requests we have received so far, it appears that the field is going to fill fast. We have had many teams from Canada express an interest this year and several have already committed. The levels of play this year included Midget 1, Midget 2, PeeWee 1, PeeWee 2, PeeWee 3, Squirt 1 and Developmental. Many new teams have registered for the tournament. Especially exciting this year is the number of applications being received from Canadian teams. A listing of the teams that participated last year is also available on the Polar Bear site under the 1996 tournament section. This is the story I have heard... The tournament is organized by David Cohen and his company. There was a tournament planned for last Christmas, but the women's portion was postponed. The men's teams responded quickly and filled up, while the women were slow in responding, so they turned the ice time over to more men's teams and planned a women's tournament in March instead. The So. Cal Rays signed up for the March tourney, but was the only women's team to get their money in by the deadline. We were given the choice of not playing or playing against the men. We decided to play the men. It was a great tournament anyway and good experience for the team. I will see if I can get information on the tourney for this December and contact names and numbers for Cohen. I would encourage any team to join in and look forward to see you in Las Vegas. Just get your money in on time this year! 8-) Peggy Cunha (Hockey Mom Extraordinare) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jun 1996 10:49:52 -0400 From: kristen@procom.procom.net (Kristen M. You can write for information: > California Hockey Productions > 1262 S. Barrington Ave, Suite 203 > Los Angeles, CA 90025 > (310)478-2826 Thanks for the contact Rhonda. For all those that had interest in this tourney...I spoke to this company and have recieved the information on this tournament. The tournament is in March (choice of weekends) and runs from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon. There is a three game minimum plus play offs. The Women's Division states that the abiblity level should range from novice to lower intermediate. It seems like a first class tournament and I believe it is organized by what I understand as a business that sets up tournaments all over (I received information on a tourny in Arizona in May as well) There is a choice of accomodations and depending on that the price per player ranges between $199 to $275 U.S.(Dbl occupancy), and Non-playing Guest is $170 (Dbl. occupancy, hotel only). The whole weekend would not be a cheap one. For us Canadians it would run us about $358 Cdn. per player for hotel and ice, plus travel expenses etc... Which leads me to my next question..Does anyone know if there is a Womans League in the Las Vegas area that hosts its own tournament? Thanks :) Kristen M.
