It is by no means all-inclusive! I offer it merely for entertainment and education; some of you may have found all these anyway. Only a few are women only, and there are only a few specific goalie camps. A few are in Canada, but I tried to keep my focus on the U.S. Most of them (surprise!) are in the northeast and Minnesota. If there are goalies out there who would like the addresses of more goalie camps, email me privately and I can probably point you in towards a few more. Me again :) Just wanted to let people know about some clinics this summer. I'm not associated with this organization, just attended the clinics last summer and really liked it. This summer they will have clinics in: Anchorage, Alaska Lakewood, California Chicago, Illinois Chamonix, France <- high school students only Mt. Clemens, Michigan Eden Prairie, Minnesota Walpole, Massachusetts Rockville, Maryland The head coach is Karen Kay (UNH coach). They have a girls ice hockey school (age 8-18, all levels), a senior womens hockey clinic, and a High level training program (min age 14-- for college bound hopefuls). If you want more info call them at 800-868-7679. Last year, she brought along some of the Team USA skaters (Shelley Looney, Kelly Dyer, Chris Bailey --hope I got the names right and spelled right). The flyer advertises the following as guest coaches for this year: Christina Bailey, Lisa Brown, Karyn Bye, Cindy Curley, Shawna Davidson, Maria Dennis, Kelly Dyer, Shelley Looney, Brian McClosky, Fred Quistgard, Sue Reece, Kelley Roberts, Joe Snicinski, and Gretchen Ulion. Also, if you haven't guessed, if you're trying to play in college, this would give you visibility since Karen coaches at UNH, Lisa coaches at Princeton, Joe coaches at Yale, and lots others are ass't coaches. If you're interested, give them a call and get the info. Sorry if anyone is upset about this pseudo ad, I just think this is too great an opportunity to miss... at least find out about it. I don't know how they advertise, but if I hadn't wandered into Mt. Clemens rink last year and picked up a brochure I wouldn't have heard of it. Rhonda paprockr@vtc.tacom.army.mil ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Feb 1996 13:20:04 -0500 From: jlb12@cornell.edu (Jess Becker) Subject: summer camps/clinics Hi, Rhonda posted a message about some of the summer hockey clinics, I thought I would add a little to that list. This past summer I worked at girls' hockey camps in New England. These camps varied greatly in skill and age level as well as physical intensity. They included: The Blue Hills Girls' Hockey School is a small girls boarding camp held at the Williston - North Hampton School in East Hampton, MA. It is run by John Dooley, the former Harvard Womens' coach. The coaching staff included, Julie Andeberhan, the head coach for Cornell, Bill MacDonald from Harvard, and Dick Marr from Tabor Academy. The counsellors included players from UNH, Middlebury, and myself from Cornell. Paul Vincents Dynamic Skating camps are intense hockey clinics which are held all over New England. Some are boarding camps and some are day camps. Most are co-ed. The only women's camps are boarding camps held at the Williston-North Hampton School in East Hampton, MA. Many of the co-ed camps are specialized for forwards, defense, goalies, or for specific skills like shooting and passing. The staff varies from camp to camp, and includes coaches and players from the UMASS colleges, players from the USA and Canadian Women's national teams, and players from Div. I women's hockey teams. The Babson Girls' Hockey Camp is a boarding camp held at Babson College in Wellesley, MA. It is run by Steve Stirling, the Babson Athletic Director (he also runs the Europa Cup summer leagues). The coaching staff consisted of players from the U.S. women's national team, the Northfield-Mount Hermon and Taft Schools, local town teams, and recent graduates from UNH and Princeton. The counsellors included players from UNH, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Milton Academy, and Lawrenceville Academy. There is a girl's camp here at Cornell run by Julie Andeberhan, our head coach. This past summer the staff aslo included our asst. coach Carol Mullins, many of my teammates, and Karen Bye from Team USA. Phillips Exeter Acadamy and Dartmouth College each run thier own camps in NH. I don't know much about either of them except that the Katie Stone from Harvard was at Exeter this past summer, and that George Crowe runs the Dartmouth camp which is staffed mostly by Dartmouth players. Hope this was helpful. I'll repeat Rhonda's appology for the pseudo-add. I tried to be non-partisan (hey, I included the Dartmouth camp didn't I) ;) If anyone wants any more info about these camps, feel free to email me directly. Later, Jess Becker #6, Cornell Women's Ice Hockey Team jlb12@postoffice.mail.cornell.edu It doesn't matter if your team has good players, it matters if your players have a good team. - Morag McPherson, Cornell #21 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Feb 1996 13:37:15 -0500 (EST) From: "Serene Satterlund" Subject: Summer clinics In reply to the Team USA clinics, I also beleive that Coach Mason (here at MSU, he is the guy's varsity coach) is holding a week-long camp. It is to introduce ice hockey to girls and women who have never played before but who would like to try it out without incurring a huge financial obligation. Our current club members will be at the clinic to welcome the newcomers. Girls and women who are playing on boys' or adult (mostly men's) teams are welcome as well, to give them the taste of playing on an all-female club. The Club is looking to develop a learn-to-play program in addition to its travel programs for the next season, and this is a step in that direction. Doug Woog (U of MN Men's coach) hosts a camp - along with many other names - some including USA team members. If anyone is interested, I can try and get a list. Let me know if anyone out there is interested, otherwise I won't gather the info. Also, regarding USA Hockey gender-specific clothing. After asking for 6 years for this, Minnesota was finally able to get them to do a pony-tail on this years USA Hockey National merchandise. It was done without a pony-tail and we told Doug Palazzari (sp?) to send it back and add the pony-tail! So, they are finally opening their eyes. They have no idea how much clothes girls buy do they? I think), played in the world > championships in 90 or 92, played for the Harvard women's hockey team, > and is a very friendly helpful person. She runs a camp here in the > summer, and I'm sure is very familiar with other camps. Hockey News is also a source of info on camps. Their URL is http://transc.com/hockey/home.htm This post had a lot of good information mixed together: 1. Camps.. George Crow runs an excellent two week camp at Dartmouth College, he is the coach, but I suspect it is sold out and it does cost $1000. There is the Blue Hills Camp run by former harvard coach John Dooley at the Williston-Northampton school in Easthampton MA. Indeed most of the colleges have camps. Another option is to try out this summer for the Hockey Night in Boston tournament on the Mid-West team. The organizer of the team is Bill Nook and the try-outs will be in Ann Arbour June 12-18. The HNIB Boston office is at 508-682-2425. Gary Demopolous organizes the girls program. This tournament is attended by almost all the college coaches. I work with a Canadian team and had 9 of my players in it last summer. Thats it so far on camps. I will post another message on colleges/scholarships and then a final one on other miscellaneous information.
