From: Andrew Erivin Date: Tue, 30 Nov 1999 18:47:27 -0500 RINGETTE TEAM USA - AN OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN HOCKEY PLAYERS Ringette is a developing sport in the U.S. The game is played primarily by girls and women, and is popular in Canada and in several European nations. Ringette is played on an ice hockey rink, and has some similarities and some differences from hockey. Agility and eye-hand coordination are more important than physical strength. Ringette USA has been encouraged by the International Ringette Federation to field a team for the next Ringette World Championship Tournament, which will be held in November, 2000 in Finland. Because there are not yet an extensive number of women ringette players in the U.S., Ringette USA is very interested in including some women on the team who have experience playing in-line hockey or ice hockey. The necessary skating skills are the same for both ringette and hockey. This is a great opportunity to represent the U.S. in a world tournament. Players must be age 16 or older, available for a one week summer camp, and be a U.S. resident. Interested athletes should contact Andrew Ervin, Ringette USA President by March 31, 2000, at 651-426-3386, aejervin@earthlink.net, 1820 Sixth Street, White Bear Lake, MN 55110.
