Women's Hockey first competed in the Winter Olympics in Nagano in 1998. Team USA claimed the first gold medal, as six countries battled it out for this honour. Since 2002, eight teams have competed in womens' hockey at the Olympic Games. Canada has claimed four consecutive gold medals since 2002.
