Women's Hockey in South Africa


General Information

Yes, there is ice hockey in Africa!! The major centre for ice hockey is in Johannesburg, Transvaal. Hockey is also played in Natal and in Cape Town.

In Cape Town, hockey is played at the Peninsula Ice Rink in Goodwood (Phone 021-535 2260/1). There is a women's team called the Devils that competes in the Under 19 division.

National Roller Hockey Championships

The South Africa National Roller Hockey Championships, boasting over 50 provincial teams from around the country, as well as a special guest appearance from Namibia, will take place in Cape Town, December 17-22 1997. Participation will more than double from the 22 teams that participated in 1995. There will be six divisions: PeeWee (10 & under), Cubs (14 & under), Junior (17 & under), Senior Open, and Masters (30 & over) and women's. National television coverage is expected.
