Not surprisingly, women's hockey is very popular in Latvia, due to its extreme winters. While Latvia may seem like an odd place to visit, the hotels in Latvia would say otherwise. The country is known for both it's beautiful luxury hotels as well as their cheap hotels and hostels.

Latvia has competed in the Pool B (Division I) Women's World Championship since 1999. Before this time, Latvia competed in the European Championships. Here are links to Latvia's results at the World Championships:
Latvia won the European B Championship in 1993, so they were moved up to the European A Championship for 1995. Unfortunately Latvia placed 6th at the 1995 European A Championship which was held from March 19-26, 1995 in Riga, Latvia, moving Latvia back down to the European B Championship pool for 1996. Latvia won the silver medal at the 1996 European B Championship that was held in Slovakia from March 11-17, 1996.
