Year's Overview

The year 2001 started with Team Canada's tour of Western Canada. Canada played against Team Sweden in various cities in British Columbia and Alberta:

  Jan 22 2001 7:00 p.m. Canada vs Sweden, Hanna, AB 4-0 (1-0,3-0,0-0)
  Jan 24 2001 7:00 p.m. Canada vs Sweden, Cranbrook, BC 8-0 (3-0,3-0,2-0)
  Jan 25 2001 7:00 p.m. Canada vs Sweden, Trail, BC 8-0 (2-0,6-0,0-0)
  Jan 27 2001 7:00 p.m. Canada vs Sweden, Kelowna, BC 4-1 (2-0,2-0,0-1)
  Jan 29 2001 7:00 p.m. Canada vs Sweden, Golden, BC 9-2 (1-1,4-1,4-0)

Next, Team Canada took on Team USA in the 2-game TSN Challenge series. The first game took place in Red Deer, Alberta, and the second in Denver, CO during the NHL All-Star weekend. Team USA scored with 20 seconds left in the first game to win by a score of 5-4. They claimed the series by winning the second game by a score of 3-2.

Before the World Championship in April, Canada played a couple of exhibition games in Ontario:

Next on the agenda was the 2001 Women's World Hockey Championship. Canada managed to maintain their perfect record, winning all games in the round robin, semi-final, and the gold medal final. They captured their 7th consectutive gold medal by defeating Team USA by a score of 3-2.


The national team centralized in Calgary at the beginning of August 2001. They will be practicing twice a day and playing exhibition games to prepare for the 2002 Olympic Games. Here is the schedule for the rest of the year 2001:
