Toronto Star Sports =================== Cherry will help out on telecast of women's final By Ken McKee - Toronto Star Sports Reporter October 22, 1996 URL: http://www.thestar.com/thestar/editorial/sports/961022SPB2_SP-CHERRY22.html Don Cherry, chuckling tongue in cheek that ``I know it will hurt my image,'' will appear on the CBC telecast of the final of the Three Nations Cup international women's hockey tournament. The game will played in Ottawa Sunday, but will not be shown until Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. Cherry's ``not to happy about (the delay), but what are you going to do?'' The Breeders' Cup horse racing extravaganza is on Saturday and CBC has the CFL Sunday. ``I'm supposed to be the redneck,'' Cherry said, regarding his image, ``but I know this, if people went out and saw (women's hockey), they'd enjoy them. I feel they put just as much into it as the men do. ``When I first went (to drop the puck for a game in Mississauga after he moved there from Colorado), I was thinking, sort of, well, you know . . . but when I saw the effort they put into it, I got interested. Now, they're going to the Olympics.'' Terry Leibel will be the host for CBC and of course, Cherry couldn't resist a chance to pick on his favorite whipping boy - oops! Make that person. ``The trouble is,'' he said, ``she'll be tougher than (Ron) MacLean.'' Ken Daniels and Greg Millen of Hockey Night In Canada will call the game. ---------- Contents copyright © 1996, The Toronto Star.
