Christmas 2023
Hi Everyone!
We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for
2024!
Christmas is going to look a little different for us this year. On Christmas
day, we'll be departing for Holguin, Cuba, where we'll be staying at the Gran
Muthu Almirante Beach Hotel for a week. The whole family will be going,
including Grandma Ruth and Aunt Leslie & Aunt Nancy and their families!
Needless to say, we are VERY excited! We won't miss shovelling the snow.
❄ 😊
Speaking of trips, during the summer, we enjoyed visiting Marc's two sisters up
in Kapuskasing in Northern Ontario. We brought our nephew Benoît back with us,
and it was a pleasure to have him stay with us for a few weeks in August.
We had enough room in our car for Benoît because Célia didn't accompany us on
our trip. She had just finished her first year in Biology at Trent University,
and stayed at home in Toronto for her summer job in the food department at the
Toronto Islands' Centreville Amusement Park. She took the GO train and a ferry
to work each day. Nonetheless, she was able to spend some time with us at the
cottage a couple of times. Célia is now in her second year, and is living
off-campus with her roommate in an apartment in downtown Peterborough.
As for Rémy, who just turned 16, he is now taller than his mom, and within a
hair of his dad! He is in grade 11 at Saint-Frère-André (SFA) high school. He
plays for SFA's hockey team and they won the
Great Lakes Hockey League Championship in March. He is again playing hockey for the Duffield Devils
(GTHL "A"); they won the
league championship in 2022-23,
and the Ottawa River
Cup Tournament in Gatineau, Quebec earlier this month. During the summer, he
once again worked at the Funnel Cake Shop during the Canadian National
Exhibition (CNE). In the winter he works part-time as a rink guard at Toronto's
outdoor rinks.
Camille is now officially a teenager, and to celebrate her 13th birthday,
Andria took Camille and three of her friends to Niagara Falls, where they
stayed at a hotel and enjoyed the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark! Camille swam
with the Lakeshore Swim Club last year, and did very well in her races. She
recently passed her Bronze Medallion swimming certification, and will work
towards her Bronze Cross in the new year. She still sews and plays hockey
with the Mimico Canadiens.
As for Marc, he still really likes his work at Autodesk, and playing music
during his free time.
Since January, in addition to singing with the choir at the local St-Leo's
church, he now plays guitar with them as well. In March, he had the
great pleasure of singing two of
his songs at the celebrations for the
Journée internationale de la francophonie at SFA!
[IN CASE IT'S NOT OBVIOUS ENOUGH, MARC WROTE THIS PART!] As for Andria, nothing
much this year. Oh, wait! She did go on a chartered bus trip to the White
Mountains in New Hampshire with her mom and her uncle back in May. But that's
it. Really. Well, on second thought… Yes! She started getting back into hockey
by teaching her friend Leslie B to play, but then at the last minute, she
joined a hockey team from Peterborough for a qualification tournament for the
55+ Senior Games in November (yes, she's a Senior at age 55!). They won all
their games and qualified for the Provincial Championship that will take place
in Orillia in February! Phew, glad I didn't forget to mention that. But wait,
it feels like I'm forgetting something else… hmmm… Yes!! The highlight for
Andria during 2023 was without a doubt (drum roll please)…
Andria's double induction into the
University of Toronto's Sports Hall of Fame
as both an individual hockey player, and as a member of the 1990-91 and 1991-92
teams that went unbeaten in back-to-back regular seasons. Bravo Andria, you are
incredibly deserving, and we are very55 proud of you! It was a great privilege
and an honour to accompany you to the award ceremony in May 2023! Hats off, or
is that hat trick 😊, to you!
In closing, we wish everyone an enjoyable holiday, and we wish you all the best
in the new year!

SFA.
l'an prochain.
[AU CAS OÙ CE NE SERAIT PAS ASSEZ ÉVIDENT, MARC A ÉCRIT CETTE PARTIE!] Andria,
maintenant, officiellement, dans l'âge d'or!).
