Hello Everyone!!

Season's Greetings!

Well, first of all, I'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Season's Greetings and best wishes to you and your family in the new year!

And if English is not your first language...

Well, this form letter idea turned out so well last year (i.e., it saved me tons of time! ), that I decided to do it again this year! This time I'm going to make it quite a bit shorter though! ... only because I felt sorry for all the trees it killed!

Well, this has been quite a busy year for me, but definitely not as busy as last year. I had some friends from Switzerland visit me during this past summer (Bizu, Sigi, and Hansi) and they brought a friend from Germany (Mai). Unfortunately I didn't get to spend much time with them because of needing to do my school work, but we did make it up to my parents' cottage for one weekend. My friend Monika was here attending George Brown college for 2 months, but then she decided to go back to Switzerland for good. I was very sad to see her go. I must say that she really has taught me a lesson of generousity though ... she gave me her car to keep when she left. It's a nice 1991 Special Edition white Honda Civic ... it even has A/C! Thanks a lot Monika! ... but I still wish you could have stayed instead!

The World Wide Web

One of the newest things for me since last year is the expansion of the women's hockey information that I have on the world wide web. If you have access to the world wide web, the information may be viewed by going to this address: http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria.

This is turning out to be a much bigger project than I had first anticipated. I have contacts from all across the world that have been sending me information on women's hockey in their country. Since March 7th, 1995, can you believe that 20791 different computers, from all across the world, have accessed the information! I am finding it very hard to keep up with all the e-mail, so please wait until after I graduate before sending me mounds of e-mail! My e-mail address is: andria@sys.toronto.edu

I currently maintain general women's hockey information, university hockey information, and international hockey information, including information about women's hockey in the following countries:
  • Canada
  • USA
  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Norway
  • Germany
  • China
  • Gt. Britain
  • Russia
  • Latvia
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Netherlands
  • Japan
  • Italy
  • Australia
I still need to get information for these countries:
  • Czech Republic
  • Slovakia
  • Ukraine
  • Austria
  • Korea
  • South Africa
If all goes well, I am hoping to be able to get a job which is related to this when I graduate. I'm looking to find a computer site to host the hockey information once I graduate from the University of Toronto.

My Hockey

Well, in terms of hockey for this year, I am playing full-time for the University of Toronto (again!) and part-time for the Toronto Red Wings of the Women's Senior AAA COWHL league. As I mentioned last year, I decided not to tryout for the National Team due to injuries (although the injuries are feeling much better). We are currently in first place with the University of Toronto, and in second place with the Toronto Red Wings.

So far we have had road trips to Kingston, Cornell, Yale, and Brown with my U of T team. We also have a road trip to Montreal planned for the first weekend in January. The newspaper photo that you see on the right hand side of this page was in our school newspaper earlier in the season. The OWIAA finals will be held in Kingston from February 17-18, 1996.

The Ontario provincial tournament for my Toronto Red Wings team will be held February 9-11, 1996 at the Stoney Creek Valley Arena. The winner for the provincial tournament will represent Ontario at the National Championship which will be held in Moncton, New Brunswick from March 21-24, 1996.

School

Well, after a number of changes to the focus of my thesis, I have finally decided upon, "Aspects of Workload Characterization for Distributed System Models" as the title of my thesis. I should finish it by the beginning of the summer, and my graduation will be in October 1996! I can't wait!!

Other Stuff

After I finish my degree, I may be going to California to play roller hockey for the summer ('96). When I was playing roller hockey this past summer at the '95 North American Roller Hockey Championship (NARCh) in St. Louis, Missouri, two owners from one of the RHI teams were scouting at one of our games, and asked me and another woman on my team if we'd like to play. They are starting a four-team pro-beach women's roller hockey league on the beaches in California next summer. Could be fun!!

My Mom, Dad, Leslie & Nancy are all doing very well. Unfortunately I don't see them very often because I'm so busy with school and hockey. I'm still going out with Marc (3.5 years!). He should finish up his PhD in October '96, so if all goes well, we'll be graduating from U of T at the same time!

Take care and enjoy your holidays! Have a wonderful Christmas and God bless.

Love,

Andria ( Snipe / Taz / Dandy )

P.S. Thanks to Transtario Buslines for sponsoring me again this season to play for the Toronto Redwings Senior AAA team! Greatly appreciated!
